Reclaiming ppi and default on store cards

Options
Hi everyone,
Was slightly confused by post received this morning from my debt management company. Had to use a DMC when made redundant in 2006 and PPI wouldnt pay out!! Thats another story. Anyway this morning have got a sheaf of forms asking me to sign so they can reclaim PPI and defaults from certain catalogue and clothing companies. Have asked them why, as had no idea that these companies applied those charges, and apparently they do. Now DMC wants me to sign and return so they can claim for me. Hmmmm I think not, they couldnt get my bank PPI back, but I did that on my own.

So any advice on how to do this, or if anyone has had any similar experience, like just found out about it. I would be extremely grateful, dont fancy the DMC taking a cut of something that:
A) Is mine and
B) I could probably manage to do one my own without losing 25% of it

Many Thanks :)

They are asking your permission to complain on your behalf. If you don't give this permission they can do nothing, but there is nothing to stop you complaint directly to the firms concerned as long as you have valid reasons for doing so.
  • Thats just it, I didnt know anything about PPI and defaults from catalogue and clothing companies. So didnt know about having a genuine reason. I have asked the DMC if they know how much is owed, but they have said they wont know until they proceed with the claim, which sounds a little strange to say the least. I always understood that similar to bank charges you had to have the amount or at least some idea of the amount before you could claim.

No money is "owed" unless you make a mis-selling complaint which is upheld. You don't need to have any idea of amounts, just valid reasons to complain.

Store cards weren't rgulated till 2005 so anything before that, you have to complain tot he store, then when Santander turn you down [they own most of them now] you complain to the insurer [usually Genworth]
For loans/credit cards, you need the account number, and then send a complaint form to them directly.

read it carefully pay attention to the difference between closed and open accounts.
