What are the ranges of motherboard temperature (in celsius) which is too high?
and which temp for it, is fine, for there to be running at this temp ?
edit- I am actually asking about the CPU temperature, as corrected by members in this thread, thanks,

It varies from motherboard to motherboard, but generally, there's no need to worry at 30C. 40C should raise an eyebrow and be a factor when you consider your case's airflow. 50C is definitely the time to take action, as that's a lot of hot air sitting inside your case cooking your components.
If you're reaching high-40s/low-50s, a 120mm exhaust fan on the back is probably what you need. Measure your fan bays to make sure a 120mm fan will fit! Bigger is better (more air pushed and less noise).Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?

Clean the dust out from all the vents, heatsinks, and the fans - this is always the problem with increasing temps on CPU and MBs.0

Do you mean the CPU temperature? There's a guide here to what the CPU temperatures should be:
http://www.buildcomputers.net/cpu-temperature.html
They give a guide on checking temperatures by running HWMonitor on this page:
http://www.buildcomputers.net/check-cpu-temperature.html
One of the parameters on HWMonitor is motherboard temperature, which, for me, displays a temperature of about 120C! As all my other temperatures are good, this doesn't sound right! Doing a search it suggests that my motherboard probably doesn't actually have a motherboard temperature sensor and HWMonitor is just displaying a random value.Charlie0 -
Mine tends to hover around the range 60-something DegC when demanding games are being run.... If it drifts up to 70+ it's usually time to open up the case and check it's not clogged up with dust.
I have an i7-950 tho which has a reputation for being both a high-ish end CPU and being of an age (2009) when they generated more heat. Your's should be running cooler than mine.
When my PC is sitting idle and/or doing basic stuff like word, email etc it sits around 40 DegC0 -
You're talking about your CPU temperature I think, JasX? 60 degrees is terrifying for a motherboard temperature!!!Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?

Yes I was talking CPU too, tbh I rarely monitor temperatures other than my CPU and graphics card (and even then it's only once in a while flicking on the nvidia widget that does this)0 -
CPU i7-3770 in a SFF case runs at between 40C and 50C general surfing etc. It goes up to the early 80'sC when streaming something like 4K video.
I don't use it for gaming so can't give a figure for that.
I don't tend to monitor it continuously these days. The i7's of today run hotter than older CPUs.
The PC will switch off if the CPU becomes too hot to avoid any damage. In normal usage you shouldn't get anywhere near that point.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

If the PC works, the CPU temperature is fine.
Modern processors are smart enough to detect rising temperatures and shut down before they get damaged - e.g. if your CPU fan stops working.
Don't test the theory though

if your worried and it makes more noise than it used to then its probably time to clear out the dust0
