How long does your commute to/from work take?

On a good day an hour and a half each way, on a bad day, well it has taken me over three hours to get home, (one train one bus). Thankfully the company I work for is moving offices into the city center in a few months which will knock about 40 minutes off my commute.0

I have done 2 hour each way commutes and I look back now and wonder just how on earth I did it.
I currently have a 10-15 minute drive, or about a 45-50 minute walk or recently, I have been doing a 25-30 minute cycle commute.
When I was last job hunting, I was even baulking at the idea of commuting 45 minutes by car as it seemed "such a long time"0 -
7 minutes is that fastest i've driven longest its taken to the same place is 3 hours
there is a bottleneck roundabout getting out of my area into the rest of MK but once you are on the approach to it there is no way to turn around or get out of it so once you are stuck you are really stuck there was a massive 6 car crash basically all around the roundabout and i couldnt get turn around or get past so my travelling time all depends on that roundaboutThe only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 50 -
Mine is at most half an hour door to door with short walk, tube and short walk. My last job was an hour bus ride each way.. hated it.0

Currently it takes me 30mins walk to get to work. I realise I am lucky to work local (I walk slow) and with my budget and the current housing market I realise I may have to spend an hour commuting even though I am reluctant to do so.
Some people at work travel nearly 2 hours each way. I think that is just madness!
My work is 45 miles away from home. Takes me about 1 hrs 15 mins commuting each way
I guess for people doing big commutes there must be extenuating circumstances as to why they dont move close.
My commute isnt as massive as some, but theres no real opportunity to move close as (a) my wife works 10 miles the opposite direction, so a move closer to my work would be further from hers, and (b) we built a house in the country, so moving closer to my work would mean compromising on that.
Its a bigger commute than i'd like but they pay well. If i was to work within a 10 mile radius of home, i'd be looking at a £15K pay drop.0 -
1 hour 45 minutes each way - 3.5 hours per day, bus, tube with a change for another line in the middle, bus again.
BUT - this is life in London if you want a decent job with decent money you travel...and spend half of your life commuting...0 -
I commute 13 miles and my husband commutes 42 miles in the opposite direction. However we have similar journey times because of the traffic - around 50 minutes each way. His commute is A roads and motorway but I commute into a small city which is often gridlocked, particularly during term time. At the moment with the Easter holidays it only takes me 20 minutesMortgage free wannabeMortgage (November 2010) £135,850Mortgage (November 2020) £4,7840

My current commute is 20 minutes each way.
Before this my commute was 1.5 hours each way as I used to live in London when I got that job (took 45 minutes) but increased when I moved. I hated it. It was really difficult for me to leave that role because of the logistics of trying to arrange interviews locally and then getting into work without arousing suspicion.
I resigned in the end and left and luckily found this job that paid slightly less (outside of London) but I was better off because no more £4k a year on train fare.
Sometimes I do think now that even 20 minutes is too much! But I went into London (Farrigndon) for a leaving do and realised how much I appreciate not having anything more to do with London. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
