Thanks for the info on the sats papers will have to download them for both levels as have 2 to go through them this year.
as for the 11+ query, we had a look on this site /www.11plusswot.co.uk but actually spent money in smiths on the practice papers and also the bond 10 minute practise tests. The school will help you to decide but they will not coach the children for these tests. We moved from an area that had no 11+ to Kent, and very luckily my eldest has passed :j :j
Good luck with whatever you decide0 -
I would not worry about the test results. They are used to test the school, not your child. The idea is to test all the kids in the school at 7 and again at 11, then see how much 'value' the school has added. From the school's point of view, they want low scores at 7 but high scores at 11, to show that they have added a lot of value. Whatever the outcome, it's not going to affect your kid, at least not the age 7 score. Do the school a favour, and don't coach him!
I agree- but with one proviso. If your child is doing key stage 2 tests they are often used in setting classes so if their performance is a bit variable then it can be important what level they get, as if they are borderline to get into a higher set, of course the figures will be used. Having said that, it is really difficult to make a whole levels difference to them and most schools are obsessing about these tests like mad anyway, so you are likely to make the kids feel anxious about them. The English test is a really poor test imo as it only allows certain answers, when other answers are correct- English being that kind of subject- but they want to make it easy to mark.0 -
Does anyone happen to know where I can download (free) copies of the 11+ papers, also known as "The Kent Test". This is the exam that kids do at the end of primary if they are in a grammar school region (like we are in Kent). I would like to have a look at some papers to begin to get an idea of whether to put my son (currently age 9) through this ordeal or not. The school will help us to make the decision next year, but I would like to start thinking about it a bit earlier.
here's a couple of sites:

http://www.athey-educational.co.uk/noaccess/mult1x.htm
http://www.athey-educational.co.uk/noaccess/nvmult1x.htm
my son passed and he is realy enjoying the school.
if you reckon your child can do it, then its well worth the time spent.
good luck.0 -
Warning - These are past papers - sounds obvious but...
Whilst some schools use these as mocks, the biggest impact on their usefulness affects the Shakespeare paper. Macbeth - previously the favoured text of most schools - has now been dropped by QCA. Most schools have moved on to 'The Tempest' or 'Much Ado'
QCA in its wisdom, publishes 'set scenes' for students to study, however, these tend to be changed just about every year (which means lots of work for English teachers - they never change 'the heart' in Science do they?!?) As a consequence, past papers will rarely be useful if they relate to the Shakespeare examination.
If you are looking for something, try searching https://www.teachit.co.uk for 'The Tempest 2007' . Some things are more useful than others here, but it's a handy resource for English teachers - and parents.0 -
I cannot get them to print. I keep getting "unable to print" message, then PDF error. Does anyone have any ideas why this is?Just off the border of your waking mind, there lies another time ....0
