Insuring a second vehicle for business
Hello.
I currently have a car and 5 years no claims bonus and due to expanding my business I need a van which I have purchased and is in storage although my current insurance policy dosent run out until September and they have told me they dont insure vans and if I take a separate policy out I will not be able to use my no claims and will cost me a fortune.
So does anybody have any suggestions? Would it be worth taking out some sort of temporary insurance until September? If so are there any companies that are pretty cheap for temp insurance?
Thanks for reading!

Are you a sole trader or a limited company?
What sort of van is it?
Who will be driving it?0 -
Temporary insurance is never cheaper, pro-rata, than a full year's insurance.
If you're keeping the car, then you're going to need two policies anyway - and you'll need to start from scratch on NCB unless you can persuade an insurer to give you an introductory mirroring.0 -

I cant get over the fact that I have earned the NCB and I cant use it on 2 vehicle's.
Introductory mirror sounds like a good idea Im going to try that if I can persuade somebody. The reason I said temp insurance is because in september I could have a multi car policy that could work out cheaper then 2 policies. Thanks0 -

Your concept of having your NCB applied to an extra vehicle is a wonderful idea - I like it - I like it - I really do - there's only one problem - the insurance companies don't work like that - they don't like it.
Also - how would you feel if you had 2 or more vehicles and a claim on one of them meant that you lost the NCB on all of them?
You have earned your NCB on one vehicle and that is all you are entitled too. The best you can hope for is an introductory discount.
I also don't think that your simplistic view of multi-car policies will help you either.
I have several vehicles - all insured separately - it's cheaper.
I check every year.0 -

Think getting 2 lots of cashback on 2 separate policies, getting the 2 cheapest independent policies etc.
And each vehicle on a multicar policy earns its own separate NCD.0 -

Pop into a local broker (Avoid Swinton) and offer them both policies if they can get you the best possible deal.
What they should be able to do (Assuming you have a good driving record) is to use the no claims bonus on the van and then mirror the same no claims bonus back onto the car.
You'll probably need to cancel the car policy and swallow any cancellation charges.0 -
Thanks for all the replies. Obviously I have been a bit narrow minded with this insurance business haha I should have known better you cant expect to much from insurance companies.
Although I now understand why I cant have the same NCB on multiple vehicles0 -

This is probably my best option, thanks.
I know of a local insurance broker that my dad has used for years I will try them.0
