in my youth I bought a private registration for my car, and a few years down the line it has lost it's appeal and I intend to sell it, looking at the selling websites it just states put your reg in and we will give you a valuation but it dosen't go into more detail until you sign up to sell such as sellers/transfer fees etc. anyone got any idea what would happen afterwards?.

Sell it yourself, they simply advertise it and add comission, a plate will sell itself if it means something to the prospective buyer, if you have the daft re-spaced plates with distorted and obscure legend to get a meaning then it's worth even less. Put it on ebay or something, if you get any interest then you have an idea if it's worth as much to somebody else as it does to you.

Example if your plate was say DAV1E it's going to have much more prospective appeal than say D14VE or DAV14G .

They'll promise faithfully to sell it, then nothing much'll happen until somebody decides they want to buy it.

If you want rid soonish, either get it transferred off the car to a retention certificate (which carries an annual cost), or write to DVLA and ask for it just to be removed, or list it on eBay.

How much would it cost to put it onto a retention certificate and would it cost more to re-register my vehicle another reg??...

    Retention costs:
    £105 for 1 year
    £130 for 2 years
    £155 for 3 years

And then you'll have to pay the standard £80 fee for transfer onto a vehicle.

The £80 transfer fee is included in the fees you have included above.
