Oh Jeremy Vine drive me mad. He asks his guest such IDIOTIC questions sometimes. Fortunately as I work F/T atm I cannot listen to the drivel that is JV most of the time.
The Valligirl listens to R1. How they get away with Matt's Debate (it's the way they pronounce it;)) I cannot imagine. And Innuendo Bingo? Dumbed down IMODon't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
Thank you Honey Bear0 -
does steve wright still have his non-stop oldies slot ? used to annoy me when he would say its non-stop oldies time and then after the 1st track butt in and talk or play a jingle"If I know I'm going crazy, I must not be insane"0

Unfortunately, my dentist has Radio 1 on in the morning - not sure which is worse.0

Evans annoys me too. He talks (about nothing) over the start of every song, then talks (still about nothing) over the end of every song. Sometimes he even pipes up in the middle of songs as well. About nothing.0 -

Sorry for getting the sad bit wrong .. TBH at the time you just had to listen. These radio DJ's were a part of my past .. Diddy David and as I grew up the soft melting tones of Bob Harris (later of the Old Grey Whistle test fame) . I used to do my homework listening to the top 40 on a Sunday... number 1 was important in those days..
BT used to have a number you could call to listen to the number one.. my Dad had a fit one time when I cost him a fortune with all the calls I made listening to Lonely this Xmas!
I was 15 and had been dumped
He bought me the record
I worked in a factory in the early 80's that played music over a tannoy system that I think was installed during the war and they made a decision to allow employees to bring in records that they would like played ..instead of constantly playing radio 1
All went well until someone brought in The Sex Pistols and the first track was '!!!!!!! in the Riggin' .. played full volume by some poor unsuspecting office lady who loved Barry Manilow.. (google the lyrics if you are not au fait with this classic)
17 to 25 year old employees were rolling on the floor .. older ladies were choking on the vending machine coffee.. which was constantly available at 10p a cup
Thank you for letting an older lady witter and I will now stop hijacking this really great thread.

I remember that! You had to dial 165.

"Dial-a-Disc"...I can't believe that we actually used to do that!
I think they used to have a few different records and if you liked a particular song, you'd have to keep ringing to try to get the one you wanted. When we got our first home phone, I spent ages dialling it, only to get a huge b****cking when my mum got her first bill!
(I've just told my teenage son about this and he fell about laughing at the thought of someone making a phone call just to listen to a song!)
I can remember my brother and I, yelling at my poor mum if she dared to speak during the Top 40 on a Sunday night when we were trying to tape the songs. My brother still has an old cassette with his favourite song, Dr Feelgood's "Milk and Alcohol" and you can hear our little sister, singing in the background and my brother hissing at her to shut up! (My sis is 40 this year)

Ugh, I never understood having to have constant music and chatter while you're working - I find that I work better without it. And I loather Radio 1 with a passion, it's been dreadful for many years. I hate that it's often the default station for workplaces.
My current workplace has a local station which, though cheesy and a bit naff, is bearable for me. However, the room next door can't get the same signal, so we now have two different stations audible on some days when next door decide to play their favourite bits loud. It got so distressing for me that I had to mention it to the production manager, and believe me, being a newbie there I don't want to rock the boat and have my card marked, but I cannot concentrate with two radio stations at equal volume blaring away (earplugs helped a little, but didn't muffle the sound enough really).
Radio 2, even Steve Wright, would be a blessing compared to that!
Another thig I've noticed is that Radio 1, despite not being a commercial station with adverts, still manages to play fewer songs than the commercial station we usually have on, and that's not counting the advertising jingles!0 -

Has Steve Wright ever - ever played a track from beginning to end and not interrupted the play ? He always comes in with some banal comment or even tries to sing the words.
A lot of DJs seem to think it's utterly hilarious to sing along. Does anyone find it funny?! I actually heard a local DJ talk all over the guitar intro to Layla the other day.0
