Avis Car Hire £69.00 for a week can you find one?

Ok here is a challenge for you all?

Next week I fly out to Portugal so I am looking to hire a car for a week.

To my delight I found Avis are adverting:-
Make great savings on weekly rentals in Portugal

Prices from £69 per week

Fantastic I thougth so I looked at the t&c's (link below) great I thought a real money saving deal........

Do you think I can find a car for £69.00 or even near £69.00

So I called them no one in reservations knew about the offer so I insisted they look into it for me they came back with ......

The price quoted is a bit like an air line ticket...... you see the price but then have to pay all the taxes and insurance extra,, hello the offer clearly states it included insurace so asked to speak to complaints dept was given yet another 0870 number. I phoned told the lady I wished to make a complaint and she said you can make it to me, told her the story she put me straight back through to reservations

So now I am wondering if the offer ever existed? any comments or suggestions before I write a letter of complaint would be appreciated

Found 1 week in November for £80.75

I think the £69 rate is for a car like a small Fiat Seicento, that aren't available at all airports.

Well I imagine that SOMEWHERE in there at some location there's a £69 rental. A few minutes playing around has found one at £80.75 in November, including insurance.

And it does say prices may vary by season.

You don't really have a valid complaint - try another company and don't waste any more time on this one.

tried it and got an excellent discount, >25%

the Vehicle Damage Cover Excess and Vehicle Theft Cover Excess are, well, excessive...
for a compact convertible it's £1000 and £1300 respectively, with or without the discount code

would be usefull to know the cost for reducing the excess

To call Avis use 01344 42 66 44 not the 0870 number. This puts you through to the central reservations Number from SAYNOTO0870.COM
I think to reduce the excess it may be cheaper to buy a yearly insurance policy.... They are mentioned on this site but I can't remember where.

Have a look here, just contact them with your details. They are very competitive and a lot of the hire companies use these anyway. We have always found them cheaper than anyone else and they are very polite and helpful. Tell them you have been told to quote "Casa Duas Ribeiros" to obtain a 10% discount.
