Found an article on how to make the slug killing nematodes yourself, sounds pretty yucky though very moneysaving.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/gardening/gardeningequipment/8675592/The-war-on-slugs-starts-at-home.html

I am going to try them for the first time this year myself after reading that rather than reapplying every 6 weeks like the manufacturer says, one application early on in the season seems to create levels in the soil that last through the summer, but we will see.

TBH I am trying the packet stuff first myself, then decide if I can face a pile of slugs lol. But it may be useful to someone.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I think I'm going to have a go with the bucket of slugs. We found quite a few slugs while weeding this weekend and its so early in the season.

Cannot hurt to try. We have used commercial nematode so before but I am a bit disorganised about reordering, Presumably stirring and using ones own brew of nematodes is more fun because it gets more crucial to use the straining as it gets harder to find slugs in the garden. If not, then I'll get board and give up....;)

Wondering if this would work for snails too?

I've only spotted literally two slugs since buying this house, albeit massive great brown ones (I swear one of them was a good 6" or so long, but I wasn't going to measure it before getting out the salt to throw on it), but I have spotted quite a few snails. Something has been noshing on my food though, so I'm guessing its those snails.
