Be careful buying cheap regular tennis balls if your dog chews them up - the coating can be more abrasive than on those designs specifically for dogs

I know many dogs play with tennis balls all their life and are fine, but where there are risks of choking, and there are other alternative toys available, I personally choose not to take the risk any more.
My Rottie x did get lots of tennis balls when younger, and some of her teeth are quite worn - don't know whether it's related or not, but she doesn't get tennis balls anymore. Infact, I don't tend to play chase much with my dogs either, although it's good for physically wearing them out, I find it can be a bit of a detrimental form of exercise - gets them fuelled with adrenaline which can cause/aggravate behavioural issues (it certainly helped Kiki's separation anxiety to quit the chasing games), the sudden starts and stops aren't good for their joints, and so on. I prefer now to play games that involve brain power as well as physical exercise.0 -
Please be really careful with tennis balls - they are like sandpaper for teeth!
I don't recommend them. 0 -
I don't buy tennis balls any more for my dogs.
When Jack was a puppy he chewed and ate half a tennis ball and was horribly sick.
The inside of the ball reeked - a strong glue/rubber smell - definitely NOT what I want in my dogs' tums!
Apart from that, they don't last two minutes once the dogs get their jaws around them. I buy the more solid balls to throw for them now.0 -
Ok cheers for the advice would you recommend the foam balls instead as they are not quite as solid , only thing I worry about with the foam ones is he will rip them to shreds and eat them my dog just loves fetch#1799 sealed moneypot challenge- target £500 s/f £378

What about one of the heavy rubber balls? Providing you don't give him something small enough to swallow/choke on I assume they're alright?0

Ebay for branded balls, tennis clubs? failing that contact a flyball club, they might be willing to sell you some.
Always get the branded ones though not the cheap 'pet' ones0 -
Have you tried the Kong tennis balls?

They do them in different sizes or there is also a hard rubber ball made by Kong.

Copied the first link I saw on Amazon so you'd probably want to have a look round to compare prices.
