Banging my head against a brick wall....

Hello!
I recently insured my car through Tesco Bank, underwritten by Covea. Ten days later I received three days notice that my insurance was being cancelled.
To cut a long story short, I applied for a copy of the Synectics Solutions report the decision was made on. The report shows that in 2011, Nationwide Building Society marked me as 'Status: Refer'. In 2012, and twice in 2013, they marked me as 'Clear'.
I conatcted Nationwide to ask why they had flagged me up on a fraud register. They said that it was due to differences in addresses. I have banked with nationwide since 2003. They claim that in 2011 I applied for a current account (I already hold my main account with them), which is when they discovered two alternative addresses for me-both correspondance addresses, linked to credit accounts which were closed in 2006/8. Both compaies held my home address aswell. In 2012, Nationwide felt happy enough to give me a credit card.
They have said that they will not remove any information from my credit file. I do not want that removed, I want this 'Refer' thing removed and an apology. My car insurance has doubled in premium because of this. Due to the 12month legal timeframe I cannot sue them for defamation.
Where do I go from here? How can they refer me in 2011 and then clea me three times since, and give me credit, if there was an issue over my identity?!!
Please help!!

No expert here...
Did you complain to nationwide in writing?
Did they say you can refer to FOS or ICO?
When did you become aware of the issue?:beer:0 -
Hi!
Yep, complained in writing and received their 'Final Response', was told I could take it to the FOS, which I guess I should do.
I only became aware of it as a result of having my car insurance cancelled and making a data access request to Synectics Solutions..0 -
Ok, well I would also be asking the FOS for the difference between the cancelled insurance and what you have now if they find in your favour.
Can take months to sort but you should do it ASAP.
Good luck
