overpayments not allowed?

Sorry if this is a silly question but when I've paid off my credit cards previously they've always been on 0% and I could make small overpayments whenever I wanted to. I tried to pay £30 off one of my credit cards last week but it wouldn't let me as my minimum payment is £61 on that card. Can you only make small overpayments if you're on 0%? Unfortunately I can't put them on 0% so am just paying off what I can when I can but it looks like I can only make additional payments that are also greater than my minimum which is a bummer!?

I assume you're trying to pay by debit card on the provider's website?

Some providers assume this is the only payment you'll be making and so put the restriction on.

The 'workaround' is to push the money by faster payment from your bank account, using the details on your statement (sort code, account number, and reference [your 16-digit card number]). Personally, I'd always send £1 first to check all's OK before sending a larger amount.

Interesting, thank you very much. Yes I was trying to pay by debit card on their website. It's not too bad making additional payments of £61 but once that's gone then my next card to hit has minimum payment of £267!!!! That is a lot to find in overpayments!

as said faster payments is the way to do it, do this weekly and it also cuts the interest down for those that don't pay in full at the end of month depending if the faster payments count towards to min dd amount

It may be worth only overpaying the card with the highest interest rate and paying just the minimum on any others. That way you're attacking the most expensive debt.
