Student loan to help my rating?

Hi
My husband was made bankrupt 3 years ago, discharged 2 years ago and since then hasn't tried getting credit from anyone. However he has gone back to college and they are allowing him to pay off his fees with a monthly direct debit.
My question is whether they would open an actual credit file for this and if (God willing) we have no issues with paying the school fees every month until they are clear, will this help his overall credit rating?
Also, he got a government loan to help him with a new business venture which also takes out a certain amount every month. Again, will this help his credit rating overall?
Not that we want to get into debt again, but we've checked his credit rating and it is 'very poor' and it would be nice to see it creeping up into a more positive credit bracket.
Thanks.
