Upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 Upgrade

Is it possible to upgrade straight from windows 8 to the new windows 8.1 upgrade? So bypassing the first 8.1 if you get what I mean.

If it's possible, is there anthing to take note of?

Thanks

8.1 was so bit it was pretty much a complete replacement of the OS.
If you haven't already got it, then it is worth doing.
    I'm not sure whether 8.1.1 (I think that's what it's called?) has 8.1 as a prerequisite.

I don't think there's an 8 -> 8.1update1 ISO. Somebody may create one at some point.
8.1 may be done "offline" by this -> http://www.cnet.com/uk/how-to/how-to-download-the-official-microsoft-windows-8-1-iso/
    the 8.1update1 updates are here -> http://www.extremetech.com/computing/178091-how-to-download-and-install-windows-8-1-update-1-for-free-right-now
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

My understanding is that Microsoft will update the 'Update to Windows 8.1' in the Windows Store so that it will take you straight from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1-with-update.

In fact it looks like may already have put this in place - from here:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-8/install-latest-update-windows-8-1
If your PC is running Windows 8 or Windows RT, open the Windows Store on your PC and update to Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1. This latest update will be included. For more information, see Updating to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8.

Does anyone know where Microsoft are going? They certainly have little idea!

I upgraded my new laptop last night and it went straight from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1update1 after selecting 8.1 from the store.

    Thanks all.

Peter 999, is there anything you would recommend I do before upgrading? Did you experience any glitches?

To be honest its a really simple upgrade, nothing to it.

When you select install from within the store, you can just carry on working as normal. It downloads it, checks the computer and installs it all in the background without affecting use.

When its finished, it re-boots and goes through the normal windows is updating with a percentage etc. I left it for about an hour as I was doing something else - when I came back it was on the login screen as normal.

I only realised update 1 had installed as well when I could pin metro apps to the taskbar.

The change from 8 to 8.1 is a significant one, so I'd take a backup image using Macrium Reflect or similar before you start. Not that I'm aware of particular problems but it's good practice.

Also be aware it's a hefty download - somewhere between 3-4GB if I remember rightly.

I saw something which suggested the 8.1 ISOs which this trick fetches may be updated in a few weeks, to include the update.

However it only works if you bought a Windows 8 product key that was an upgrade from Windows 7 or earlier. If the PC came with Windows 8 pre-installed, the key won't download this ISO.
