Really? I find it causes me to come out in a rash, I need something soft, strong, long and with pictures of puppies on the packaging.

I know I do not have to use overdraft. Month on month we have been using it less and less trying to budget a lot more, but following the redundancy and accepting job that is paid lower, we found ourselves changing our lifestyle, but still needing the overdraft, that seem very convenient.
    - we do not have finance on the car - we drive 10 year old one.
    - we do not have the latest gadgets, smartphones, expensive mobile phone contracts
    - we buy used clothing from ebay
    - we shop at Aldi, Lidl, Home bargains and B&M - if you have ideas on what is a step down from this - share them with me please.
    - we have cleared credit cards and only use them for large purchases (like car insurance, that we consider a large purchase)
    - we have not been on holiday for years (but I assume this relates to many people)
    - the idea of a fancy restaurant dinner is Harvester - once every few months...

I do not want to have to use the overdraft, but for the time being this is the option.

What made me more angry that the fee increase, is the way it was communicated. As new, improved, better and simpler. There would be no post like this, should I got a letter stating: 'Dear customer, we are increasing our overdraft fees' etc.

but being serious £1440 every 4 years for the 30 quid contract and possibly 10 quid a month on the lurpack? and these same people hitting the overdraft have no cause to complain at Barclays razing there over draught rates etc, it is these people that im referring to, by all means spend what you want on what you want, but don't expect cheap overdrafts etc to finance that lifestyle

same boat as me on under 20k a year, shopping in all the places you do with a 6 year old car, but I don't use overdrafts and still manage to save.

you need to get out of this asap, because Barclays are going to shaft you and others when those new fees come into play, all im say is its the banks money and they can charge what they like - its the customer that decides to take it and pay for it

I also have sky and a contract phone, and I drive a 2.2 petrol

I am hoping that we will not need it when the new fees kick in middle of June. But I think we will have to stop to do mortgage overpayments each month... :(

My old Nokia phone is on PAYG - as this way I can control the amount I spend. :)

    Thanks.

try and get a 0% with mbna it really will help you out aslong as your careful, I don't have a overdraft (well I do but I don't use it) but I do have credit cards, which I do bowow on etc, but its at 6.9% and blance transfer cards etc, I really do sympathise with you - that's why im in lidl and aldi too
  • you could increase your overdraft so that you do not go below zero.
