Afraid to look at my credit rating

Hi everyone

I've come over from the debt free wannabe boats because my husband and I became debt free at the end of January after paying off almost 50k of secured and unsecured debt.

We need to remortgage our house later this year so knowing how our credit files look would be helpful.

My problem is I just too scared to sign up to noodle or one of the other agencies. I've spent so long dealing with our debt problems that I just don't know I can take any more bag news if there are any nasties on there!

My husband and I had no late or missed payments on our debt, ever. We moved house in January (hence being able to clear the debts with our equity) and I have updated or council to get the electoral roll changed but not sure how long this takes to be updated.

I don't really know why I'm scared to look!

Does anyone know how long it will take from paying off or debts for our credit file to reflect our debt free status?

Thanks for your help!

    Hi,

I'm sorry, I don't know the answer to your question, but I just wanted to say well done on becoming debt free! I'm sure someone with a lot more experience than me will be along soon to help x

If January is when you became debt free I would hope all lenders would have now updated the CRA's by now.

I think you should just sign up for peace of mind; if something is negative the sooner you know about it and deal with it the better.

And well done on now being debt free.

  • It's actually quite empowering having your credit records in front of you for the first time! Yes it's scary to see it all laid out, worts and all, but it means you can SEE what other people are seeing (to an extent), and you can finally get control over it.

Sign up for your free noddle account and pay for your £2 statutory reports from Experian and Equifax. Make sure you get all 3. Go through them carefully looking for any incorrect information like wrong addresses, incorrect financial associations etc, any old defaults that should not be on there, and use the report error/ contact forms to request your information is changed, add a notice of correction, or raise a dispute. Make a list of your creditors and contact them if need be.

The only thing you're doing by avoiding looking is burying your head i nthe sand. Your records still exist whether you acknowledge them or not, and other people are looking at them!!!

    Knowledge is power.
