    Gated developments a definite plus. I rented in one for three years, and it does give an extra sense of security. Our gates were auto-opening, without any code, so it didnt actually stop anyone coming in if they wanted - but just having the gates there gave it a nicer private feel.
  • I think it's honestly to satisfy people's delusions of grandeur/Real housewives of wherever aspirations. Just like developers describe a 3 bed semi as 'executive' it's one of those things that has very little meaning other than an excuse to ask for more money in the sale price/annual charges.

    Sorry,I can't imagine that being a likely rule, what would be the point of it, and how could it conceivably be enforced?
