GPRS information and questions

I have a nokia 301 phone.
I found I was being charged for internet by GPRS, I rang them and they said to me if I set my phone to GSM network the internet will be disconnected and I can change it back to dual when I want to use it.
I put it on GSM and then tried to get on the internet as an experiment and found I could still access it under this mode. I was then charged 46p on GSM mode,
But when I was on the dual I was charged 5p.
I then went to the "connect USB data cable" icon on my phone and changed it to "ask on connection", rather then it being set on "sync and connect".
I thought that way it may not charge me unless I go on the net on my phone.
The point is, he said I would not be able to access the internet on the GSM code but I can. I have these on my phone, GSM, Dual Mode and 3gb.
But have currently set it to GSM as he advised. Does this mean I am still being charged?
I thought I would ask here as when you phone then it takes like a while before getting through. Maybe other here have experienced similar and have answers to this situation with their phones or advice even.
Thanks

I don't know about that specific phone and how to stop it using the internet but with other older phones I've found moving the browser button to somewhere it can't be accidentally pressed is often a solution if it's a soft key and that can be done through the menu.
I doubt any option for the USB connection is going to be relevant.0
