money taken from account at branch :-(

ive just tried to make a payment using my card and couldn't as not enough funds in my account.


checked online to discover £922 was taken out yesterday and appears to have been taken out at the branch.telephone tsb to be told they couldn't get details as the branch is closed Saturday and I will have to go into the branch on Monday morning.


how could this have happened,and what is the procedure for things such as this,obviousley £922 is not a small amount,well to me anyway.


any help or advice would be appreciated.

You would need to report to TSB that the balance on your account is not correct and that the £922 withdrawal was not authorised by you.

You would need to tell them you need the funds to be available to you and see what they say (could be temp overdraft etc).

TSB should then investigate to determine how the fraud happened. They may ask you for details, check CCTV etc and may then involve the police.

It it was fraud, you shouldn't be left out of pocket and they should refund the money to you once they've investigated.

thanks for advice,just quite worrying when you see that amount has disappeared,do you know how long the process takes once I go into the branch,i know it wasn't me so would have to be fraud of some kind.


was quite funny in a way as on telephone they kept asking me if I was sure I didn't buy something for that amount yesterday and take cash out at branch.somehow I think id have remembered and ive not actually used that branch for possibly 12 months,its the smaller branch of the two in my town.

Reg 61 of the PSRs says they have to refund "immediately"...

its ok panic over,is appears ex girlfriend has cleared my account,trying to look on the bright side at least I don't have to go through all the messing about at the bank on Monday morning.

some was hers most was mine,to be honest its a lesson learned now,luckily I had most of my money in another account,she only recently became ex.

Make sure you block her ability of being able to withdraw anything else, including any credit cards or other bank accounts she may have access to.

The key question is:

Has an account holder withdrawn the money, or has a fraud been committed?

Obviously it's your call but if that's not a joint account I'd be taking it further.

You would be amazed at how many times people forget and shout their mouths off in branch, and then suddenly remember the transaction, whether that be online or in branch, and then out of embarrassment most of the time just walk straight out of the door.
