Quick fix for leaky hot water cylinder?

Hi guys!

We have a slow leak/drip from the pipe/join going from the base of the cylinder. We had a plumber out who said basically we need a new cylinder as it is corroded a little around the join but we can't afford it at the mo.

Just wondering if there is a temp fix for it until we have the money? I recall fixing a leaky sink in our old house with some sort of putty that goes hard, would this be a possibility and would it be safe to use on a hot surface?

You could give this a try, I've not used it externally for sealing leaks but it's very effective as a jointing compound:

Sounds like the cold feed is leaking, the pipe that supplies the cylinder from the cold water storage tank in the loft (the big one). Not sure how effective LSX would be on a wet joint to be honest.

You'll be very lucky to stop it leaking with anything. I had the same problem at my dads and all failed as every "temporary" fix I found needed the area to be clean and dry, which in your case (and mine) was just not possible.

If removed it could be soldered/brazen up. I would suggest replacing with new as most of the replacement cost is labour
