dropbox dropping out to charge the big buck?

Hi techies, like a lot of you I'm into dropbox as it helps me send work stuff home to work on and vice versa and backs up my hard work
also like a lot of people I worked it up as much as I could from 2 gig via referral /new devices etc. to max out my free allowance I'm now on 5.5 gig and I need this really for my work home back and forth weekly copies. however approx. £6 sterling monthly for 100 gig does NOT sound competitive and I'll close it down and buy another service that isn't still charging the premium for the "name " only if this is what they want
got an email a little while ago - I changed the name, the rest is pasted as is
Hi mug with credit card ready and waiting in hand,
We wanted to let you know the extra Dropbox space that you got with your HTC device is expiring soon. Your account will return to 2 GB of space on April 23, 2014.
Check out some easy ways to increase your Dropbox space.
URL - get more space
Thanks again for supercharging your HTC phone with Dropbox.
Happy Dropboxing!
- The Dropbox Team
my question is a simple one -has anyone else had this and does it mean they will make the entire thing (as on PC's also) 2 gig again, or just stop me going crazy on the mobile, which I don't care about anyway
thanks
Andy

The amount of space your Dropbox has is account-wide, not different by device so if they're dropping your space back down to 2Gb then it'll be 2Gb on all devices.0

I thought that but wondered why they contacted me about my mobile account when the mobile account was only added to my PC account just to get more space so would appreciate more stories from others here if they've had the emailThe amount of space your Dropbox has is account-wide, not different by device so if they're dropping your space back down to 2Gb then it'll be 2Gb on all devices.
thanks though for the heads up, I do think it may be the case esp as my understanding of the drop box is it's one size so I'm making contingency plans to get the thing slimmed down to 2GB - which is easy for office stuff, just means better batch files that delete their own mess before the next copy for less duplication
cheers

interesting article here

I do love it but if they think that they've got me hooked and that by pulling 3.5 gigs from under me I'll simply come up with an unjustified premium they can think again, due to the wonder of find/replace I'm sure I can have all my batch files talking to a free competitor within half an hour!0 -

Because HTC and Samsung phones were run with a promotion where they would grant you so much Dropbox space (depending on the model and some other factors) for a period of time. This time, for you, is elapsing so you're losing the Dropbox space that your HTC phone gave you.
Dropbox runs a lot of similar promotions. I acquired an extra 12Gb space for two years because I had an Open University email account.0 -

yeah you're so right! so what kind of contempt do I need to have for my self and ability to make my own decisions to just reach for my walletbob_a_builder wrote: »Standard drug dealer tactics ...
the article I posted was interesting, I think the premium days are over but the premium price isn't. If I can fit inside 5.5 gigs of which dropbox now want 3 gigs back, then I'm sure there's a free service that I can find elsewhere
thanks all others for the clarity on the situation.0 -
Does sound like they mean your whole dropbox Account storage back to 2GB?
I got 50GB Google Drive Free for 2 years with my Moto G - I'm guessing they will probably take it back after the 2 years? I have started using it but I was kinda hoping by the 2 years is up they may have upped everyone's free allowance to nearer 50GB iykwim?"Things can only get better.................c/o D:Ream #The 90's

Here are the T&C's for Moto G hhhhmmmm
"5. Terms and Conditions
To receive an additional 50GB of Google Drive storage space for 2 years, you must redeem this offer within 30 days of activation of your new MOTO G phone. To redeem this offer, you must purchase a Moto G phone and log into the Google Drive application on your MOTO G using your Google account id. This offer is limited to a single Google account, as identified by a unique ID, can only be redeemed once per Google account ID, can not be combined with other offers, and and is not transferable. At the end of the 2-year promotional period, the user will still be able to access their files stored in the additional 50GB of storage, but will not be able to add new ones."
Not sure about that bit!?"Things can only get better.................c/o D:Ream #The 90's
