And DS is now away for the week, so only me to cook for, am trying to avoid the shops for as long as possible.
I have lots of other stuff in, but want to use these before they spoil.

Do you have a freezer? If so, slice the onions and bag up to use as required. Kale freezes as well. I bag it and when frozen, crush it up a bit and add a handful or two to vegetable soup or broth.Fully paid up member of S.A.B.L.E.

Don't know about the blanching thing but personally I would have some roasted red onions....cut onions into horizontal slices about 1-2cm thick, lay out on a baking tray, in a small jar mix wholegrain mustard, honey and olive oil smother onions with the mixture and cook for about 30mins until onions are soft and gooey....I could eat these all day...nomnom!!
Kale - I like to chop a bit of bacon, fry it off, add the washed kale and then cook until wilted....goes lovely on dressed mixed grains with pulsesMortgage 12.12.12 £55842 12.12.13 £42716 14.12.14 £28837 13.12.15 £25913

cut up some kale and onions and bake in the over about 10 mins. sea salt sprinkled on top or black pepper with a bit of balsamic vinegar and its really nice. If you have some feta cheese or cheese triangles etc, a little on top when its nearly cooked melts a bit and is lovely. could have it with a jacket potato.0

Kale keeps quite well in the fridge - much longer than spinach does. You might not need to freeze it.
Kale's lovely mixed with some creme fraiche and lots of black pepper. I tend to boil it. I know that's sort of unfashionable at the moment, but I find it goes very tough and chewy cooked the other ways (baked excepted - nothing wrong with crispy kale). It doesn't stir-fry well at all.
I can't imagine you'll have any trouble using up the red onions because they can go in pretty much anything!Saving for deposit: Finished! :j

Thank you for posting this thread, I got a big bag of kale in my veg box this week and I'm a bit stuck on how to use it all.
I might try this: http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/10046/stirfried-curly-kale-with-chilli-and-garlic
but that will barely use half the bag so grateful to see some other ideas!0 -
I never blanch the Kale.
I usually buy bags from the supermarket, especially if reduced, and just throw the bag straight into the freezer unopened.
When I need some I just open the bag up, crush the kale until it looks like chopped parsley then throw a handful or two in my soup, then reseal the bag and chuck it back in the freezer. No mess, no faffing about chopping it up.Easy peasy.Fully paid up member of S.A.B.L.E.

Kale chips yum!
Slice out the midribs and sprinkle liberally with olive oil,lay on a tray covered with greaseproof/baking parchment and sprinkle with seasalt and pepper and if you like it chilli flakes.
Bake for around 15 mins on 180 or until crispy.
These are really moreish but do remember to brush your teeth before you smile after eating them lol0 -
I vote for kale crisps as well. Very nice but only use a small pinch of salt
Someone asked about blanching. No need what so ever. Just freeze as it is.
When it comes to cooking it. I put boiling water in a saucepan and drop the kale in. Turn off the heat and put a lid on. Leave be for 5 minutes or so by which time it will have wilted and cooked.0
