Rogue telephone banking registration letters

Received a letter from Halifax earlier in the week saying I'd requested to set up telephone banking - thought it odd as I only have a credit card with them and hadn't made the request but had spoken to a very unhelpful advisor that week about my credit limit so assumed she had sent the letter.
Now I've just received a letter from Lloyds saying I'd requested TB too but they cannot set it up as I don't have an account that qualifies. I didn't ask for TB here either but have opened a new Club Account recently.
Anyone else received these? Not sure if it is worth ringing them to try to see where the letters originated from or just to ignore them.

The advisor might have signed you up for telephone banking whilst opening the club account?0

If they are saying they can't set it up then I would say it's unlikely to be an attempted fraud.Dustykitten wrote: ». . . No I did it online. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
I phoned Lloyds. The advisor did not know why the letter had been sent, gave various senarios which did not fit like, did you not clear security the last time you phoned, I have not phoned. She is 'raisig a ticket' to get it investiagted.
Not phone Halifax. Their letter is different, it has a form which I ams supposed to check the details on and return with 'a secret word'. The form is blank and I already have a word on the account.
I also got an email form neighbourhood watcch today telling me to be aware of a new banking scam where they open a new account, telephone you to tell you there has been fraud on your old account and to transfer all the money into the new account.
I so much prefer internet banking hence why I never requeted TB in the first place. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
It does seem a bit suspicious that you're getting these letters from different banks. Might be a good idea to check with all your banks. I might be nothing but there could be an identity fraud being attempted.

I don't think there is anything suspicious.
On the Halifax, you probably got "an unhelpful" person on the phone since you were not registered for telephone banking. The person was helpful enough to organise telephone banking for you for next time you need it.
On Lloyds, if it is your first account with them, they would send out telephone banking details as they would send out online access details.0 -

Apart from I am registered with a password at Halifax and I already have 6 previous accounts with Lloyds. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
Both my husband and I have TSB accounts and we received our activation codes last week. This morning I received a letter giving me a new activation code that I'd apparently asked for ( I haven't ) but the code is missing. He received a one yesterday. Currently the waiting time is 5-10 minutes at the call centre.0

I received the same worded letter as jennie44 received about a new activation code that I'd apparently asked for and it was not present in the letter.
This is perhaps a computer glitch in an otherwise speedy and event free account opening process.
Perhaps registering a mobile phone triggers the pointless letter ?

Not really, they're both part of Lloyds Banking Group and the OP had been in touch with both of them recently.Consumerist wrote: »It does seem a bit suspicious that you're getting these letters from different banks.
Just sounds like a communication breakdown. Or maybe the OP signed up for mobile banking; IIRC telephone banking comes as part of that.0
