The same rule applies to putting soft (or to b soft) fruits near oranges, oranges let off a gas which can ripen other fruit.

It's strange - ask anyone the colour of a banana and they will say "yellow".

Go to the supermarket and they are all as green as grass - when you try to "home ripen" them - they go straight from green to black and miss out the yellow stage :(
