M&S Credit card, Statement Slip, DOESN'T Show 16 digit card number?

On a M&S Credit card monthly statement,

if a payment is to be made, at a bank using this minimum payment credit card statement, by using cash (which takes 3-5 days)

But looking at the statement, (the bottom slip which the cashier keeps) , where you enter the amount to pay, that you tear off..

this Doesn't show the M&S 16 digit credit card number, but instead, it gives these 2 numbers

M&S Reference, (which is 10 digit number)
Credit Account number, (which is another 7 digit number)

The customers address is also on this slip.

but,

shouldn't the slip show the 16 digit number? to recognise the card user?

First 6 digits will be the same on all M&S cards as these are the issuer identifier. The actual account number is digits 7 to 15 and the final digit is a check digit to check the card is real.

    that is understood

but as far as Paying the payment at the bank, with Cash, 3-5 days, will it be received by M&S credit card?

as the payment is from the bank -Llyds TSB ?

will LLyds tsb recognise this M&S Card, - as the slip Doesn't have the 16 digit number ??

Are you unable to pay via online banking?

I don't really get this antiquated withdraw some cash, fill in a piece of paper, join a queue in a bank branch, hand the money over to a person who doesn't even work for the firm you're sending the payment to, watch things get stamped, wait for five days for funds to appear and then wonder why it takes so long approach to bill paying.

My MBNA card uses an account number rather than the card number for a lot of my contacts with them. It provides an extra layer of security, so if someone gets their hands on your statement, they don't get your card number. I moved to entirely online billing some time ago so I don't really notice it now.

I'm not really sure what your concerns are though? Do you think M&S would deliberately send you a statement which diverts your money elsewhere? Do you think its a misprint on the bill?

As other people have said there are better ways to pay than through a bank branch using a pay-in slip.

i dont think you need to be concerned, Karen.

i have never paid a credit card with cash at a bank branch. i can envisage circumstances in which i might want to, but it is relatively unusual.

On my slip, the reference number shows 16 digits in the same format as my card number. The first 6 digits, being the BIC are the same as on the card, but the remaining 10 are different.

Still, the money gets to the card each month so there must be some kind of cross-reference look up being done at the other end.

  • Only your account number and payment reference number are shown on your statement and payment slip, not your actual CC number.

You would be better to pay by, faster payment method at your bank. Payment reaches your M&S account in 2 hours..:D

It always makes me laugh, that a mate at work regularly takes a half day annual leave once a month.

First he goes to some office to pay his rent, then the council offices to pay his council tax, then stands in a big queue at the bank to pay his phone and credit card bills.

I just use online banking, and what hasn't been taken by direct debit, is taken care of in a matter of minutes.

I do actually pay all my credit card bills at the bank, I like to feel like I'm supporting a small local branch - there's never a queue though and all the cashiers know everyone by name. It only really takes 10 minutes, including the walk from my offices to their branch though. Perhaps you're mate is trying to support the branch?

There is no cost to me really - since the cheque debits my account, the same day it hits the other bank.

This said, I admit - I do pay all my bills that I get a discount on (e.g: Council Tax), by Direct Debit on my other 123 account.
Thank you all for helping me make my day by saving money!
