Premier Inn are Barmy

This happens all the time. I want to book one night at a particular hotel. Website says its unavailable, but how about one 20 miles away.

So, I increase the booking to two nights, and then to three nights, and hey presto......its available.

So I then call up their call centre and cancel the last two nights, as of course, they still do not have availability for the first night.....even though I have a booking.

Barmy.

I asked why they did this. Its because they want to sell more room nights.....2 or 3 nights obviously better than 1.

Huh? How's that then? You end up selling less room nights because you are telling punters all over the country that the hotel is full when its not.

I'm not going to stay for two nights when I only want one.

Barmy.

not as barmy as the travelodge cancellation insurace extra for £1-50 to cover cancellations. It does not cover cancellations as said in the terms and conditions.
All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.
  • I've managed this. Booked online for minimum 2 nights on flexible booking which you don't pay for until arrival. Then rang hotel itself (not central number) a couple of days before and said I only needed first night, please could I amend. They did, no problem. Might just have been lucky though.

me too - and I've not had any problems getting the hotel of my choice, for dates I'm looking for. Often I have a choice of 2 or 3 suitable hotels for my dates.

Much much better than travelodge these days, and Premier Inn is the website I go to first for hotel rooms when I'm looking for a break in the UK, or an overnight stop before a flight etc.

I have stayed at Premierinns on dozens of occasions and only once was I unhappy, however, we have recently been staying at Holiday Inn Express, rooms just as nice but the price includes breakfast, which at Premierinn would cost over £16 for two.
Not exactly gourmet food, but good enough to last until lunchtime, sooner or later Premierinn will need to include breakfast so the prices will no doubt rise.

Im not saying the Prem is not a good product. Its how I have to book three days, and then cancel the last two in order to get a reservation. Wouldn't it be easier for everyone to let me book just the one night in the first place?

Very strange. I've never had a problem booking a single night at Premier Inn. I would have thought that the business model for budget hotel chains would be designed around people stopping for one night only then moving on.

I think its up to the individual hotel to set those restrictions. And its not all the time.....its only on certain dates.
