  • Perfect relationships are impossible.

    There's no right answer, really.

Different people seek different things in relationships. When two people come together who seek the same things then the relationship has a much better chance of succeeding in the long-term.

Look around these forums and see the variety of people who post here - I'm sure most are lovely in their own way but just by reading their posts I can tell that they seek different things that wouldn't make them compatible with me.

There is no "main" thing, except for perhaps the sharing of common ideals and goals but they can so varied it is too simple of an answer.

There is no such thing as a perfect relationship as humans are not perfect.

I agree with the above posts.

It's important to communicate clearly with each other so that small niggles don't turn into resentments and minor issues don't get blown up into big ones.

Of course, this can also bring to light that the couple are no longer right for each other!

There is no "happy ever after", no fluffy pink clouds - what I found was love, passion, humour, compassion, companionship, anger, sulks, reconciliations, contentment, anger, sulks, reconciliations, passion, humour.......all intermingled. We were together for almost 50 years.

Oh yes - and lots of give and take - and as my OH said - he always had the last word "yes, dear"!

I feel a bit of a fraud even attempting to answer this thread. If I really had the answers then I wouldn't be divorced from the man I loved with all my heart, and had chosen to spend the rest of my life with.

There is no such thing as a perfect relationship. In my opinion the best ones have two people who are totally open and honest and can trust each other completely. Sharing the same morals and values is important. Having a similar approach to how you handle your finances avoids many potential problems too. After that it comes down to good communication, give and take and being willing to work at things as a team.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

    Hard work!

That includes listening, honesty, flexibility, communicating, having hobbies in common, spending time apart, and being thoughtful.

Most relationships can work with hard work. No such thing as perfection, and if you expect it, you will be disappointed!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

The relationship you have with your boyfriend, girlfriend, husband or wife shouldn't be comparable with any other relationship.

You should be able to tell them things you wouldn't dare tell anyone else, be completely and utterly comfortable in each others company.
