Windows Vista Security Updates wont install please help

Dont know whether this is part of the same problem & I still have the WebInternetSecurity virus (see below - as I dont know how to copy and paste previous posts so they show up separately inside this post) just can't see it anywhere. But laptop seems incredibly slow.
Windows has tried to auto install the Windows Vista Security update (KB2922229), each time I get message before getting to desktop window "Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service. Please consult your system administrator".
The only way I can get onto my desktop windows is via safemode with networking, choosing System Restore back to before the Windows updates, which works ok, until Windows tries to install the failed update again.
I am concerned that this might be the WebInternetSecurity virus blocking the update, or a fault with the windows update itself or any other virus, given the current info on major virus in news media!
Do I disable auto update for time being till I can get this fixed somehow?
Would really appreciate any advice on this.
This a copy of previous post 8th April, regarding problem with WebInternetSecurity:-
Have got WebInternetSecurity on my program list and in my system tray, and think its a virus, appeared after watching Youtube video.
Ran an updated Malwarebytes on my Standard desktop and it removed it, or so I thought that I'd fixed it. But recently noticed that my Avira didn't seem to be loading as usual at Start up, have just checked my Administrator Desktop and the WebInternetSecurity icon is in the system tray and also in add and remove programs list, but wont allow me to uninstall it, despite getting a message from WebInternetSecurity that it had uninstalled, it was still there each time I tried. Have an uptodate Malwarebytes already loaded so ran a full scan, which was clear.
Have now tried to update Malwarebytes Chameleon in safemode but cant connect to proxy server even though the router is showing its working and connected. Am running a full Malwarebytes scan in safe mode from the Malwarebytes I updated today (before I realised my problem hadn't gone away.), it is also showing clear.
It hasn't presented any of the usual 'your computer may be infected' stuff or asked for payment etc. But am concerned as have done internet banking etc since I thought I had sorted the original problem a few weeks ago. Is it likely that my security and passwords may have been compromised?
Also how on earth do I get rid of it? Laptop is running Windows Vista, antivirus security Avira & Malwarebytes. Have access to another laptop using Windows 7.
After running full Malwarebytes scan in safe mode, which found nothing, trying to uninstall WebInternetSecurity 3 times via add & remove programs, I shut it all down and much later on went back into Administrator desktop in normal mode.
The WebInternetSecurity icon was no longer in the System tray (bottom right), but was still in the add and remove programs. So I tried it once more, it allowed me to uninstall it and had question about removing root kit which I allowed.
Shut the laptop down, and when I re-opened it WebInternetSecurity had also gone from add and remove programs. My anti-virus Avira appeared to be working ok again as well. However I am thinking of changing to another antivirus, as I don't think Avira is as good as it once was.
Do you think WebInternetSecurity has finally gone or has fooled me completely and is hiding somewhere?

Seems others are having problems with that same update.
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-windows_update/security-for-windows-updatekb2922229/0db0e99c-37aa-4e4c-a30b-27947ac2a9fd
You can tell Windows Update to hide specific updates, rather than turning update off altogether.
Don't think it's got anything to do with your previous issue?0 -
But if its a Security update could it be important? If necessary how do I hide this update?
Will try some of the suggestions listed on the microsoft page thanks for the link.
Will re-post next week when I have had chance to try and sort it out.
Thanks to you both for your advice.0 -

To hide it, you go into Windows Update, right click on the specific update and select 'hide update'.
I think that should do it, although I've never used Vista?
To bring it back, there should be a button that restores hidden updates.0
