Fence ownership

Hello, not sure if this is the right forum, but was wondering if anyone would know who owns the fence between my house and my neighbours, not the garden fence, but the one between the actual houses- we are semi detached. When we moved here almost 7 years ago my neighbour said she put that fence up, so I assumed it was hers. But I always wondered why would that fence be hers and not shared? Would the deeds have anything stipulated, and, if not, how can I find out, please?

I think if she bought it and erected it then it belongs to her.

As above, unless it was agreed with the previous owner of your house that the fence was to be a shared responsibility.

Sometimes the deeds do have specific details of fences, walls etc.

That said, don't make the mistake of confusing a boundary with a fence.

If she put it up, she owns the actual, physical fence. You deed may show who is officially responsible for the boundary - if you look at the plan, there ma be 'T' marks showing which boundary is yours.

You can always put up our own fence on your side of the boundary if you want, or you and your neighbour could agree to share the cost of repairing or replacing the fence if you wanted to.

Hello, sorry, I meant the boundary; she did buy the fence I think(that's what she said) but the concrete posts are right in the middle, and both our gates are attached to one concrete post. I understand I can put a fence up inside my side but was wondering if the fence is a shared responsibility I would like to change it to a better fence as that one is starting to fall apart. I cannot talk to the neighbour about it as unfortunately we are not on speaking terms. Thank you all!

If the neighbour erected it, I don't think they'll take too kindly to you ripping it down.

If you want to change the fence then you're going to have to discuss it with your neighbour, as they paid money to put it up.

You could help the fence on it's way;) I believe it's windy at about 11pm tonight.

You could then mention that you'll replace if she doesn't but then it will be your fence.
