Tesco online problems

Is anyone else experiencing issues with the Tesco Bank website?

I tried logging on last Wednesday to make a payment to my account - the billing date is the 3rd so I needed to make payment before 6pm.

I tried several times and couldn't even get past the log-on page. I tried the following morning and it would log in but when I tried to go to the 'Manage Account' section it would fail to load. Once I got a text rendering of the site but couldn't get to the actual payment page.

Eventually it cleared and I was able to make the payment, unfortunately this means I will have missed my payment date and will now be charged interest....

I got some money in to my account yesterday so tried going on again to clear the full balance to try and minimise the amount of interest I'd pay. I got in from work at 5:30 and spent the next 35 minutes trying to get on to the site, again without success.

I tried again at 6:15 and got on and made the payment with no problem, but of course after the 6pm cut-off so it now won't be applied to my account until Monday.

I've had minor access issues in the past but nothing this bad.

Of course, they also don't offer any means on contact other than a phone number which seems permanently busy. Normally I'd pay the balance off in better time but money has been tight over the last month or two.

I haven't had any issues over the last few days, have you tried using a different browser to see if that helps?

I've not, that means have to use IE which isn't my ideal choice but I can give it a try...

No other websites have any problems and it is only an intermittent thing so I'm 99.9% sure it is a problem with their system but I will try just to be sure.

Not sure who to complain to or even if I have a valid complaint as I'm sure they'll point out there are other ways to pay....

I've heard of leaving it late to pay something!

How late is late? A payment made before 6pm on the 2nd will hit the account in time. Therefore, trying to make the payment on the morning of the 2nd isn't leaving it that late.

Also, if I'd paid it earlier then I'd have been paying interest on my overdraft as the payment would have pushed me in to that. By waiting until the last day I'd not have paid interest on the credit card and would have reduced the interest paid on the overdraft. Makes sense to me... Until things go wrong.

As for last night, the money didn't hit my account until late afternoon and I needed to wait to get home to make the payment. If the original payment had gone through when I first tried then I would have had until the 3rd of next month to make the payment so there would have been no rush at all...
