Hotmail/Outlook.com problem - getting desperate!

                    Hello all,
For several days I have been unable to send any emails from my hotmail account. When I try I get a 'Delivery to the following recipients failed' and no other reason.
But I can receive emails. This happens to all email accounts operated via Outlook.com as I have set up Outlook.com to receive emails from other accounts such as gmail too. It also happens on whatever device I use.
I tried an experiment and added my hotmail account to my gmail set-up and it works fine.
I have emailed Outlook support twice and despite being told that I would get a response within 24 hours it's been 3 days and I've heard nothing. I have also tried to get an answer via their forum with no luck.
Any advice/suggestions gratefully received.
