I agree, Sid... And most of those small businesses won't know they can publicise their comps through a couple of the other comping forums (not MSE, obviously), which is the only way really of getting the comp out to lots of people without L&S as an option. Also, smaller companies won't necessarily have the technical ability to link apps and woo box and RC etc.

Do the smaller companies get much new business from L&S comps anyway? I know my hairdressers tries it and found although they got new likers to their FB page it didn't actually generate new customers.

I suppose it would be different if the business isn't location specific.

It makes a welcome change to see Facebook go after the comp provides instead of the compers.

Lets hope we see an end to all the banning nonsense for good.

I think the difference this time is that they have changed the monitoring software for looking at what is being posted on peoples timelines. Regardless of whether it says L&S if the same picture gets shared in a short space of time the software should pick it up.

This could also cut down on the "funny" cat photos too....

My guess is if something is liked and shared a lot by the same person, posted lots by the same person or a L&S is asked for it will stand a good chance of being filtered and will not become popular.
However if it's liked and shared by lots of different people and a L or S has not been asked for it will probably feature as popular as there is no measure other than L or S they can use to gauge popularity.

I check real friends pages for "news" and always set my FB feed to most recent (although every so often FB switch it back to most popular) so rarely see what is being pushed as most popular anyway.

It will probably take sometime before it filters through and it will be interesting to see if it ends up with compers getting banned again or companies changing how they run competitions.

"Facebook has announced that it will penalise organisations that explicitly ask News Feed readers to like, comment or share a post, claiming that it undermines Facebook's ability to deliver the right content to the right people at the right time.
The practice, known as 'Like-baiting', can help posts to get additional distribution beyond what the they would normally receive, because the more responses a post receives, the higher up it will appear in News Feed..."

I know a lot of people don't like fb, hate likes, and detest shares, so maybe the number of comps will drop if companies are actively being demoted through competition posts?

Yeah - hope they do penalise companies for running L&S! I think some will get around it by saying 'like and comment but a share would be great' (in other words, what they are really saying is 'we cannot ask you directly to share but a sharer is more likely to be chosen!') Many do that already!

I don't win much on Facebook these days so to be honest, I am not too fussed if less comps are run on there.
:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea
  • I have been considering joining Facebook as my wins since early Jan have been zero. Think I'm now going to wait and see what happens.
