Does this herald the end of like and share competitions?

Don’t explicitly ask users to Like, comment on, or share your posts, either in text or photos. Facebook will detect this and reduce your reach

Wow. That could mean the end of FB competitions full stop

I hope it does! I'm very selective over which comps I enter on Facebook if they are L&S ones. Don't want to end up spamming my friend's feeds!

Hopefully more companies will start using an app for comps, which quite a few already do.

I would hope there were more apps rather than the L&S especially those who don't ever name winners.

Yes, that's true... They will all have to be app based, if the pages aren't allowed to solicit even comments. Think this might be an end to some of the flash giveaways though, that only last a day or so? Although, Wallis Wednesday has always been based on an app...

Not sure it will make much difference, remember how many there were when all competitions were supposed to be run using an app. They also don't appear to be doing anything about the 1,000s of pages that do not have the "FB disclaimer" on their comps.

Some competition posts already say things like "you know what to do" so don't directly ask for a post share or like but guess what all the chosen winners (just by chance) will have done.

I think the difference this time is that they have changed the monitoring software for looking at what is being posted on peoples timelines. Regardless of whether it says L&S if the same picture gets shared in a short space of time the software should pick it up.

This could also cut down on the "funny" cat photos too....

    I've been Money Tipped!
I'm not a fan of like and share but I do feel for the very small businesses that rely on these type of comps to get the page noticed by a wider audience . This won't ever stop firms like Asda argos etc who have recently changed most of their comps to L+S from running comps as before the new rules came in they ran comps through apps. It is only punishing the small businesses. If anything it will mean more Rafflecopters but certainly a lot less L+S
