Requested a balance transfer from Nationwide to MBNA on Monday 31st March. Amount debited to Nationwide account on that date. On Monday 7 April money not showing on MBNA account. After lengthy discussions, it transpires the money (cheque) did not get posted until Friday 4 April - no suprise not showing on Monday 7 April. Because it was to an Amex card with 15 digits, Nationwide have to send a cheque. I was only told it was because it was an Amex card (operator forgot to say it was because it was 15 digits, otherwise I would have said it was a duo card). Operator also forgot to ask if it was a duo card.

Balance still not cleared on Amex card. Payment due on 17 April. Will make the minimum payment tomorrow. Don't know what else I can do. Any suggestions, please.

As MBNA never received the cheque, or so they said, the cheque was stopped and a new one issued. After various delays, this was sent to MBNA on or after 25 April. As of now, this is not showing on the account.

The original cheque was credited to my account on 25 April, but bounced back on 29 April.

I am curious to find out whether anyone else has experienced such a problem with a balance transfer payment to MBNA.

I am not necessarily convinced that the cheque turned up on 25 April, but merely was banked then. Had the cheque not bounced, there would have been no interest charges, (I was asured that if the cheque arrived before the statement was made up there would be no interest charged) and I am wondering if MBNA had the cheque all the time, but there was no urgency for them to bank it.
  • Not with mbna, but I think nationwide are just useless! Sent a faster payment from them to capital one, put my card number in as reference and description. Guess what? Capital one didn't get it - bloody nationwide turned the number I had put in to all 00000's so no one had a clue who it was from!!!
