Working out Ppi Redress

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me with my question.
When PPI redress is worked out on a credit card, do they put you in the position you would have been if you had not taken out ppi ?
For example, are the monthly statements worked out without the PPI, which would make the balances and interest different each month to the original statements until they came to the total figure that would be the PPI and interest paid, and if in credit, 8% interest to the credit balance. Or is it worked out differently ?
Many thanks
