Npower Dreadful - I want to Finish!
I signed up to npower last November for electric and gas with their fixed price tariff to April 2015, quarterly direct debit.
I just cannot believe how useless this company is. The first bill was received last week for just £30! that's 6 months electric and gas. The online account readings never work even though the readings are taken successfully, the account never accepts the new readings.
I am constantly phoning npower with meter readings, but they never update my account or bills. Because I was so fed up with the service I made a complaint to npower, now npower are stating that they cannot take up to date meter readings because there is a complaint on the account and they will not accept any up to date readings. I have now decided to dump npower and go with another supplier.
What is the procedure? because I have only been with npower for around 6 months would I be responsible for paying the standing charge? which is quoted on the contract has £190.02 for 12 months (gas and electric combined).
Because I am unable to get an up to date bill what do I do? do I cancel my direct debit with the bank and then hope npower will give me an accurate final bill?

The procedure is to apply to a new supplier to take over the supply. (or you can choose a supplier for each fuel if you like)

Check your current tariff terms as an early exit penalty may apply. (Won't be much in the grand scheme of things - possibly about £30 per fuel)
Best not to cancel your existing DDI early as it might mean you being moved to a more expensive nPower tariff.
You will get a final bill like you did from the previous supplier before you switched to nPower. You will only be charged for consumption and standing charges applicable for the period you were supplied by nPower.0 -
I have to agree Npower have messed me about with an estimated bill. It was way over so I entered the readings on line and sat back waiting for the amended bill the message on screen said 10 days.
No bill so I rang and they claimed no trace of on line reading ???
I then gave them the readings and they said discard the other bill , I am glad I did not dump it in the bin the revised bill reads 20 pounds more and looking at the previous readings before the estimated ones the figures are all different. Its all designed to confuse so that you will just give and pay.
This new bill will be paid and I will await the next bill making sure they have the correct reading I am paying that and then go with a cheaper energy firm before winter.
I am sending a complaint to the regulator also.Light travels faster than sound.
This is why some people seem as bright until you hear them.0 -
Thanks for the information.
So the question is can someone recommend a more competent energy supplier? Looks like all energy companies have some kind of problems, even the ones rated on energy comparison sites. Ovo Energy looks to be competitively priced, but there does seem to be a few problems by other members.
Has anyone changed from NPower to another energy supplier, and it's the best move that they have ever done?0 -
I have moved from other suppliers to NPower and have moved from NPower to other suppliers .Never had trouble with nay supplier or any move . So far move to Ovo progressing as expected .
Standing charge is usually daily read your tariff details .
Cancel a fixed term contract may involve an early exit fee see your tariff details .
Cancelling a direct debit for a contract may end up with a trashed credit rating .0 -
The only reason we havent ditched Npower is we're looking to buy a house. Otherwise they'd have been drop-kicked months ago. Terrible company. Reported them to the ombudsman today for not sending me a bill since 2012.0

I am with nPower on their Fix August 2014 tariff. I find it annoying that they only produce a bill every 6 months, but I keep close track of my meter readings and enter them about once a month on line. The DD payments always go on time, and I can see the payment history on-line. I would advise jazzy to stick with them. Don't keep phoning them that will only confuse things. Keep accurate records of your usage. If possible roughly calculate how much you owe them, and keep that on one side in a spare bank account. When they eventually sort themselves out you will be able to check the accuracy of the bill, and pay them from the money you've saved up.0

jbuchanangb that's good advice.
The only problem is that I cannot submit any meter readings online or phoning npower, for some reason my account is never updated. I suppose it may be best to stick with npower until April 2015, because I am on a cheap tariff and dump them after the end of the contract..0
