Swapping conventional boiler for combi

Options
Hi,

Our next step for our home improvement is to change the old (15+ years) conventional boiler for a condensing combi boiler.

We live in a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom house. We may be looking to extend this in the future to 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and 1 en-suite.

We've had two local quotes and awaiting a third to come back to us.

1st quote - Worcester 25si Combi Boiler - £3468 inc VAT
- Carry out a power flush
- Drain central heating system and remove existing boiler, cylinder and tank
- Reconfigure pipework to suit new boiler installation
- Install a magnetic filter and lime scale reducer
- Install four thermostatic radiator valves to existing radiators
- Cap off and remove 2 existing radiators
- Install boiler controls
- Refill heating system and top up with a corrosion inhibitor

2nd quote option 1 - Vaillant 28wk boiler - £3181.46 inc VAT
- All of the above plus boiler relocated to the loft.

2nd quote option 2 - Vaillant 37kw boiler - £3620.66 inc VAT
- All of the above plus boiler relocated to the loft.

Once I have the third quote I'll post that up too; but what do you think of the current quotes?

Thank you.

    Anyone? :)
  • A quick search on Fleaybay gives

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_sop=16&_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=vaillant+combi+fitted&_nkwusc=valliant+combi+fitted&_rdc=1

thats for a direct combi to combi swap but if you read some of the adverts they state removal of old tank etc is another £350

    So ball park about £2k

Most offer free power flushing etc.....

I came on tonight to ask a very similar question.

I am swapping a floor standing boiler for a worchester bosh 30CDI with wireless thermostat, removal of old and disposal of old system, running new copper from gas to wall mounted boiler, feeds etc, powerflush. 3 days, £2800. Mag filter etc, No changes to any radiators.

    8yr warranty.

I'll be holding onto the tank though. All that copper I can resell.

    Hi Barrowvian

I can't comment on the price, as I had mine done a number of years ago. However, I don't understand why you want it in the loft. I've been looking to move house and am ruling out properties with the boiler in the loft. If it's anything like my combi, it has a dial on the front and you need to check this regularly to make sure it is staying within the limits. I would feel very uncomfortable with a combi in the loft.

Just my view, you may not be thinking of selling in the future, and it may suit you to have it in the loft.

What is your location as that has a big factor on pricing, cheers

A Powerflush needs to be performed by trained engineers and there will be no mess or complicated installations. Keep in mind powerflushing will only cure corrosion related problems. It will not solve any problems arising from faulty components, design or installation faults.Boiler manufacturers insist that old heatingsystems, be thoroughly flushed before installing a new boiler and if notperformed manufacturer warranty will usually be cancelled. If you purchase anew boiler or new central heating radiators you should consider power flushingbecause whilst your new boiler in pristine condition it will soon becontaminated by sludge, rust and debris which are in your old heating system causingcomponents failure or affecting performance of the system. High efficiencymodern boilers have very narrow passageways in the heat exchanger and are verysensitive to rust, sludge, scale and other debris which can cause blockage. Onlyby powerflushing can you be sure that a system is clean to the standardsdemanded by modern boiler manufacturers.
