Plum tree

Last year I planted a small plum tree into a largish tub. Nothing happened with regards any signs of life at all. Not looking any better yet either, shall I dig it out and buy a new one or persevere, I hate admitting defeat.

Two years ago I planted a plum tree. Last year nothing happened at all, no buds no nothing. I like you was disconcerted, but my mum said they can sometimes take two years to establish.

This year it is covered in beautiful white blossom and I'm hopeful of a bumper crop of plums!

    Good luck.

When you say, 'no signs of life', do you mean that the tree is just a brown stick at the moment? Are there signs of leaf buds or blossom? My plum tree is in the ground, it has blossom and buds on it but yours might be a later fruiting variety than mine. What is the variety?

My victoria plum is in the ground and there's loads of pink flowers on it now, so yours should be showing signs of life. Snap one of the branches to see does it look alive or not.

If the bark showsno green on a small thumbnail scraping, it is dead. No leaves for a year, and it is dead.

Yes, they can take a couple of years to establish but that really means for s healthy tree to come to full vigour. No leaves last year means itis 100% deceased, it has ceased to be...... It is an ex-plum......

We put our Victoria plum tree in two months ago, it's only 1.5m tall, and has just started budding (leaves not blossom..) Not holding out any hope for fruit this year as it seems quite late already, but so exciting to see it spring in to life! We got it from eBay for £9.. I'd say to the OP perhaps have a go with another one.. :-(

We bought a plum tree from Wilkinsons which said it would fruit after 3 years and it did so I would wait. If it does fruit it will eventually be worth the wait.
