Vent - Workmen in house

Options
Just letting off steam, we currently have three workmen putting a window in, first thing they asked for when they arrived at eight was coffee, then more coffee and to top it all they've now decided to help themselves, I walked into the kitchen to find them in the fridge getting the milk. I let them see I wasn't happy, it's not even as if they are very nice people. I would never do that in another persons house and to top it all they've picked up my best mug.

I also have men in the house fitting windows!

I offer coffee from the minute they get in the house. If you were offering, they wouldn't have to help themselves. I'd also be a bit cross to find them making their own coffee, but only because it would highlight my lack of politeness!!

helping themselves is out of order

I'd a bloke fitting two new windows for me a few weeks ago and wouldn't take any hospitality

So I had to eat all the chunky kit kats myself

The best thing to do if your going to have people working in the house for a while is simply set up a tray with a kettle, some mugs and some tea bags. If they are going to be there all week simply say..when youve used all that, bring your own ! simples..
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

I am very polite, they are there to do a job not drink my coffee all day, I'm paying them enough. One of them looks like Phelan from Coronation Street, lol.

It's easy for me - I don't drink tea or coffee. So I just show them my cupboards with no sign of a tea bag or coffee jar in sight....

The last trades we had round brought their own flasks and snacks and didn't take a thing. Made a big difference to the job, being shown some basic consideration!
  • The last workman in my house told me the 5 reasons he gets recomendations from all his customers.

    1) He starts on the day he says he'll start, and finishes on the day he says he'll finish
    2) He charges you what he said he'll charge you.
    3) He will leave minimal mess everyday, and take all his rubbish away with him
    4) He brings a flask with him, and refuses to take tea or coffee, or biscuits from the customer.
    5) The quality of the job is always better than the customer hoped for.

I always leave tea, coffee, sugar and milk with biscuits and cheap mugs from side for workmen. To me it's just polite xxx

James01, I am with you, taking the P or what.

I would have said I'm out of coffee, or I only drink herbal tea. I would have replaced the sugar with salt, and watered down the milk.

I do offer tradesmen drinks especially if they are here for a while, but only if I am making myself one.

Somebody I know charges tradesmen 30pence per cup and when they plug in their radio, deducts a small amount from the total bill.

If you want loyalty - get a dog:rotfl::rotfl:

All my posts are my opinion, and the actions I would take.

Yea gods! Bet he gets lousy service, tight fisted git!

If you find good tradesmen, look after them! What's a few cups of coffee and a packet or two of custard creams.
