Lockshield valve instead of TRV in bathroom

Hi all,

I'm completely ignorant regarding heating systems....but is there any reason why, on upgrading all the TRVs in a house, you would remove the one in the bathroom and replace it with two lockshield valves instead?

Cheers!

So that if all the other TRVs close up you still have some flow going round your system. Keeping flow round the system is good for ensuring once u need heat again it can be supplied reasonably quickly.

I think it's more to ensure that there is always a path for water flow around the heating system to prevent damage to the boiler and the pump.

You might want to check whether it should be the bathroom, I thought the room without the TRV was normally the one where the thermostat was located to prevent a mis-match in settings on the TRV and thermostat keeping the heating system running all the time (ie, TRV set lower than thermostat so room never gets to temperature).

That said, I can see an advantage to having the radiator that is always on the most in the bathroom as it's often the room you want to be warmest.

To be more precise , it is to clear heat out of the combustion area of the boiler . Boilers are relatively thin metal construction and when the thermostat shuts the motorised valves and turns off the boiler, if there was no circulation, heat would build up in the boiler which might damage it. For this reason the towel rail is used as a "heat sink" and the pump will keep running for a minute or two after shut off to dissipate this heat.
