Quick question about a deposit deduction

Hi all,
quick question if you dont mind.
I recently moved house and we had a few people helping us pack stuff up etc.
The LL has just told me that amongst other things, he intends to charge £25 for a tool (old drill) from our deposit.
I queried this and he said it was missing.
I've since discovered its come with us (!) and a member of my family told me they thought it was ours and packed it up with other stuff. Its currently at my new property
I have approached the LL to give it back with full apologies but he has told me he no longer wants it (quote - "I dont need it anymore") .
I have told him i'm happy to bring it to the old house and / or the letting agent as we only live a mile up the road
Anyone have any views on this? As i say, it was a genuine error while moving but at the moment, he still insists on charging us for it!

Was it in the check in inventory?
Get onto DPS now and claim your full deposit back0 -
Sorry, should have said. Its a protected deposit (we have got most of it back)
Yes, it was on the check in inventory0 -

Yes, it was on the check in inventory
Most of it, as in 25£ got deducted for the machine?
What was the process? DId you claim all of it back and the LL put in proof of deductions?
I think if you got your deposit back and you moved out, assuming the 25£ wasn't already deducted, he hasn't got a leg to stand on. Or if it the 25£ was already deducted form the returned desposit, I don't think you can do much about it.
It's done and dusted, I'm afraid0 -
Dispute it, he is looking for betterment & you have also stated you have the item in error & are willing to return it.I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

Cheers for the replies so far
We were checked out by an independent inventory company (LL not present).
He has since been to the property (a week later) and sent us a list of deductions that he intends to make. Due to my financial position i needed the 'remaining' back with a view to diputing the rest of the deductions (which I am now currently doing)0 -

I'm confused how you got a partial deposit back, if the deposit was held in the DPS then you can easily dispute the deduction online & the LL has to prove that 1, the item costs £25 & 2, explain why once you offered it back to him he doesn't want it but still wants the cash.
So was deposit held in DPS?I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

I asked TDS whether I could get part of the deposit back (over £900) that was not in dispute (its a lot of money and I needed it to pay off the deposit I borrowed on my new place).
My concern was whether me asking for 900 plus back would cause problems with any dispute i might raise about the drill and other items in the weeks to come i.e whether me getting this back would be taken as I was agreeing with his deductions. TDS said it does not.
The letting agent has paid the 900 or so back to me. Its the remainder of the deposit that we are currently in negotiations about.
However, out of all the deductions, its the one about the drill that is annoying me the most at the moment and im just curious about whether I am in the wrong trying to offer it back or whether the LL is being out of order0 -
The LL is being out of order, send the DPS the proof of your offer to return it & his claim of not wanting it anymore.
He either wants it or he doesn't but he is taking the P asking for 25 quid for something he doesn't want & I doubt the DPS will side with him over it either.I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

Cheers, by the way, does me going to DPS / ADR now about this sole item stop me from going to them about the other things in the next week or so?0
