Old post office savings account

Recently I sent my deceased mother's Post Office Savings Account Book to NS&I. She died in 1963 and I have had her savings book since that time. The account had not been used since 1955, the last entry showing a credit of 14 shillings and 8 pence - obviously
pre-decimal figures.
I expected a payment from NS&I, which would reflect interest accrued over the years along with the value of 14/8p in present day terms.
I have been sent a cheque for 73 pence, the decimal equivalent.
I would appreciate any comments - thank you.
