Painting emulsion over bleach stain ?

Hello All,

I dropped a bottle of bleach that splashed on an emulsioned wall.

It has now dried out but has left a stain on the wall - can I just emulsion over the wall or do I need to apply a specific paint / solution first to prevent the staining coming through again ?

Thanks for any help.

I would have thought just painting would be fine. It's removed the dye in effect, not stained it. I would ensure the area has been thoroughly wiped to remove any trace of bleach, and possibly roughen it very slightly with some fine sandpaper. You may need to blend it into the remaining older paint by spreading thin and wide around the mark.

You will need to apply a solvent (oil) based undercoat in it first as the bleach would have soaked into the wall and it may well, seep through the emulsion.

The undercoat will, stop it doing this.
