Married but not on mortgage or deeds

I have been married for six years and mortgage is in husbands name.
It is now time to remortgage and I will be paying my husband up to £10K towards our mortgage (I already pay into joint account equal split pro rata of our salaries towards bills) but my husband doesn't want to put me on the mortgage or deeds. I have a daughter and wonder where I stand on ownership in the future?

Did you both buy the house together or did he own it before you both met? You need to fix this issue now. DO NOT hand over any money without registering your interest in the property.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Protect your own interests properly. There's no reason not to be named on the mortgage and therefore the deeds.0

Hi we did not buy together as I had my own property at the time (now sold at a loss). We pay half of everything for our house. Well I handed over all my savings and my husband reassured me it would get sorted once remortgage gone through. Just wondering where I stand legally on the property I presume my husband could put it down in the deeds to pass to anyone including our daughter. Really disappointed months gone by and no change. Can I put an interest in property or fact that we are married with child together mean that I would get half if anything happened or I would be able to remain in property in retirement years if on own?0

As you're married you be able to claim a share of the assets that aren't in your name in the event of divorce. This is really a matter that you need to discuss with your partner. As you need to consider the welfare of your child should anything happen to either of you.0

As above, and you really need to seriously discuss the situation with your husband.
A marriage is an equal partnership, and it looks as if he may have some control/trust issues, if he's so unwilling to transfer the property and mortgage to your joint names.

No enquiries or attempts to put you on in 6 years... Im sure he has his reasons but that is a little worrying from your side.
You cant just put your name on the deeds - it would need to be on the mortgage also. When it comes to remortgage just put your name on at the time. You will probably need to pay for a Transfer of equity (this is what its called when putting your name on the deeds) which will cost a couple of hundred pounds... depends on the solicitor but I have seen prices from £2-500.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. We brought our home 9 years ago, the house is in my wife's name as is the mortgage, we are moving in a few months again and the house will be in my wife's name only again, if you trust each other I don't see any problem here apart from paranoia ? I chose for personal reasons not to have my name on the deeds and could have them added any time I want to0

That doesnt sound like its the case with the OP. It seems they want to go on the mortgage.
Does your wife have a Will? If the property is over a certain value do you have life insurance for IHT purposes?
What happens if your wife has to go into care? The house may be sold to pay for it and you have no share of it.
There may be reasons to do what you have done, but there are also many reasons against it. Trust may not be an issue but laws, rules and regulations may be... I would just ensure you are as protected as can be should something unexpected happen.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Indded. When you're married it really doesn't make any difference. Any home (whoever is on the mortgage/deeds) is jointly owned by both spouses.0
