Barclaycard delays

Options
Hi I'm wondering whether anyone can help of has experience of dealing with this. My other half has completed all the paperwork to claim from Barclaycard for an Egg PPI claim. Insurance is still on his account. They wrote to him to say they would update us by the 12 March, after several calls and lots of frustration we are still being told no one has looked at his case and they will update in time.

Looking for suggestions as to what we can do next? Have called ombudsman, but aware their waiting times to help are very long.

We never seem to be able to get past the first line of call handlers to speak to someone senior to find out why there is a delay now of a month.

They have 8 weeks to get back to you with a decision. If they don't, your only options are to wait, or to forward your complaint to the FOS.

  • Hi Taff, thanks for the response. I shall do a quick date calculation and the contact FOS- see if they can push them into making a decision. You'd think with the number of claims there have been the process would be quicker and simpler now.

You are mistaken about the process. These are not claims, they are complaints about misselling. Each case is looked at on it's own merits or failures.
Your case is compounded in dificulty because Barclaycard are not ultimately responsible for misselling anything, since you were obviously paying it since it's been an Egg card. If you took it out online after 2002 you probably missbought rather than were missold.

The FOS will do nothing to speed your complaint up with Barclaycard, they have no authority to do so, the only next steps are to wait for a response from Barclaycard or forward your complaint in it;s entireity [which means leave it up to] the ombudsman to sort out. Which can take up to 2 years.

To get payment of redress also is a very long wait on these migrated accounts like Egg . September upheld and still waiting .
The FOS said wait until 21st April and they will contact Barclays again

I would wait for the rely from Barclays .

FOS aren't there to "hurry" the complaints process. You can only use the Ombudsman service once you have a "full and final" response from the Bank or the Bank have failed to respond after eight weeks have elapsed. Please don't waste your time (and theirs) ringing FOS or the Bank during this eight week period.

Do also remember that you have no guarantee of success. You have made a complaint, not a "claim".

In January this year, I made a PPI claim with Barclay card, using a modified template letter. A couple of weeks later, I got sent a big questionnaire to fill out. I just forgot about the questionnaire and never sent it back.

Just last week. I got a letter saying that my PPI claim had been upheld and I was awarded £6736.36. To be paid within the next 4 weeks. Also that tax was paid on the 8% interest gained, and if I want to reclaim the tax back, I was to get XXXX form.
