Santander Atlantic Visa Help PPI start date

Has anyone got a long memory or better filing system and tell me when PPI was first charged to Atlantic Visa credit cards?

I have had a visa card since the 1980s which now is with MBNA previously Santander and Alliance Leicester and Atlantic visa. Have been offered settlement from earliest statement I could find (1997) but I'm pretty sure PPI started 5 to 10 years earlier. Their records are destroyed after 6 years.

I remember it was imposed unless you opted out and have asked for the date this happened but they wont tell me saying that never happened to credit card customers.

If I cant find an earlier statement or evidence it did happen I'm stymied they say.
Any pearls of wisdom or evidence it did will be greatly appreciated.
