UKPC Scotland & Sheriff Officer Contact

Options
Hi folks,
I got a parking charge from UKPC for not displaying a ticket in a car park which was free for 2 hours but does ask that everyone displays a ticket and I didn't.
I have ignored all letters that most people seem to get but today I got a voicemail from Gordon and Noble who are Sheriff Officers in Glasgow. He has asked me to call him back re a parking problem. I haven't returned his call yet.
Has anyone had this (remember I'm in Scotland) and does anyone have any advice that would be gratefully received before I return his call.
Thanks.

They are debt collectors, so can be ignored like in other parts of the UK. There is no keeper liability in Scotland so they can only chase the driver, if you don't tell them who that is they are stuffed.

UKPC are utterly useless and don't do court ever, that won't change in Scotland. So ignore unless you get a letter before claim. This IMO will never happen.

Gordon & Noble have as much authority to take money from you as Barnes & Noble. ;)

Just wondering if anyone else in Scotland has gotten to this stage of being telephoned by Debt Collectors (who are also Sheriff Officers) and if so what did they do?
It feels wrong to be ignoring a call from a Sheriff Officer.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks Bod, so do you recommend I still ignore the call too? Or should I call and claim I wasn't the driver?

Yes - I've had dealings with Sheriff Officers in the past.

Years ago I had a couple of guys who looked like Jehovah's Witnesses turn up at the door - they were told "Debt denied - refer back to your client." End of.

This is all smoke and mirrors my friend.

Look at G&N's web page. They do debt collection for anyone who employs them.

Of course they are genuine 'Messengers at Arms' and 'Sheriff Officers' and carry out duties for the Scottish Courts, enforcing official judgments.

I am 100% sure that is not the case here - they are attempting to con you into thinking they are contacting you on the instructions of a Sheriff Court.

How can they do that if you have not been summonsed to a court, found to be in the wrong and had a judgement against you to pay.

They are only acting as agents of UKPC - scaremongering in the hope you will pay up.

    Ignore the beggars.

As Iceweasel has suggested like other debt collectors south of the border who carry out other bottom-feeding jobs they trade on the fact that they have a form of authority and hope (and pray) that people will be frightened by the fact.

Besides, if they were actually acting as Messengers-at-arms in this case then UKPC would have had to have spent a good deal of money indeed. Money which would have been far better spent on the MD's replacement for his DB9 or his fragrant wife's Disco Sport. A small, made-it-all-up Mickey Mouse debt isn't going to make it all the way to the Court of Session and if it did we'd be witnessing mass porcine aviation.

Remember, as debt collectors they have absolutely no more powers than you or I to enforce a debt. That's why they are writing to you. To ask nicely. Oh, and because they are being paid to.
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

    Hi Supernurse,
Please start your own thread so that advice to the OP and yourself doesn't get confused
and also please read the sticky NEWBIES thread

As long as you are the registered keeper and have not identified the driver, as is the case with this OP, the advice in this thread already answers whether Gordon and Nobel are telling porkies or not

Ask them to come here and prove it then, we are unbiased and don't have a financial interest in you paying. These people are just lying scum! £400 indeed lol

    Hi Guys,
Really appreciate everyones' advice. Since I started this thread I have had a letter from G&N and also another voicemail from them. I have still ignored all. My question is, when will this stop? How persistent will they be or how can I get them to stop? I am now feeling harassed by them and not willing to answer any calls incase it's G&N.
    Any other tips most appreciated!
