Stuck with EDF due to their incompetency

Coming to the end of my current fixed tariff for both gas and electricity with EDF, so thought I would shop around and seek an alternative supplier.

Tried to switch to First Utility, but was told the meter reference point number for the gas is incorrect and, upon further check, it would appear that EDF have registered my postcode incorrect with the National Grid.

After being given the run around by EDF - I was told I had to fix it myself - the National Grid tell me the supplier are the ones who need to amend it on something called Xo-serve.

I had to explain this several times to the person at EDF who only caved in when I wouldn't budge on the matter, but now they tell me it can take between 5-8 weeks to resolve and in the meantime I'm stuck being an EDF customer against my own will.

What can I do to speed up this process? It's obviously not my mistake and I don't want to miss out on any current offers elsewhere.

I take its a new property? It is your supplier that has to update xoserve via an add query on contact management system
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

    It's an old property.

EDF reckon it'll take 5-8 weeks for a single character on my postcode to be updated.

Unfortunately from my experience the companies that manage the databases (ECOES/XOSERVE) are just bad as the gas/elec companies so I'd expect to have to chase this for over 2 months like I just have.

So what can I do, nothing?

This seems completely wrong that I can now switch because my current supplier messed up!

So you can change when this is sorted out? I'm sure that there will be equivalent tariffs available in a few weeks time, especially if the energy price trend appears to be going downwards a little. I'm in the process of changing from EDF to First Utility and there has been several cheaper tariffs introduced since I started the switch :(.

And if you make a little 'mistake' when giving them the changeover readings, you won't pay for any fuel at the higher rate.

I'm wondering if the switching public is being conned a little at the moment. We're told that energy prices are going up and are being urged to switch to a fixed tariff (which has exit penalties).

So everyone fixes at a high price. Prices then come down and we then have to keep on paying the high price, or pay an exit penalty to move to a cheaper tariff.

Ihad a similar problem, National grid had my gas meter register as pre-payment even though i was paying direct debit. I rang this number 01138207832 and always get someone in a uk based call center:D. They sorted the problem in two weeks with the national grid.

Actually EDF have probably done you a favour.

You probably can't beat your deal that is due to end shortly.
Once you get the details corrected (shouldn't take long at all to do that), the attempt to switch can be reattempted.

You'll still get those same great rates EDF have been giving you, even after the agreed end date of the tariff until you actually switch (providing such switch occurs in a reasonable time).
