I was discharged in February 2013 opened a business bank account with Barclays September 2013. All I had to do was make an appointment in branch and take along certificate of discharge. No problems with a standard business account, Chequebook, debit card, online banking etc.0

I was discharged November 2011, didn't think I'd get a standard business account until 6 years post BR.
Had an in-branch appointment with a Business Account Advisor yesterday and there were no problems whatsoever. Discharge Cert was photocopied for the file.
I even asked about the possibility of small amounts of finance later in the year if I need it for buying stock. The answer was pretty much to show positive use of the account for 6 months and then it would be considered on a 50/50 basis. So if I wanted £500 I either had to have the same in the account already or put up £500 worth of stock as collateral.
Hope this helps.

Try ringing the Barclays Business Team direct on 0845 605 234 and confirm you have a Discharge Certificate.
Often main call centre staff just don't know...
Pop back and let us know how you get on.When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

mmm afraid that was the number i used in0

Not sure what to suggest then. If you really want Barclays then it may be worth ringing back to see if you can speak to someone else. Mention you are aware of at least two other people who have post discharge (within the 6 years) Business Bank Accounts with them. See if speaking to a different person helps.
If not, then I believe NatWest may be worth a try. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

A couple of questions i have for those that did get an account.
Did you have a LTD company or were you sole traders?
Did you have a trading history or were you a new business?
Did you have any money to put straight in the account?
No sure we are getting all the info we need here. I will need a business account come June when i am discharged so this info will be of help to me too.0 -
well im going to try making in branch appointment only wanted to stay with barclays because thought it be easier and they can see how current account been run
and credit file not to bad a few red marks still there but they will fall off soon and they can see credit card payments and car finance payments being made but hey hoe who says lives easy for an ex bankrupt lol0 -
Well in my case:
I am a sole trader, I had closed down by original business with the Bankruptcy and restarted around year later in the same trade, so I had been trading for about 7 months, I didn't want any credit facilities, I had a couple of thousand to transfer in to open the account from my COOP cashminder account which I had being using ( I know your not supposed to).
I remember making applications to a few companies and all were able to give an account, the problem was RBOS and BOS didn't contact me to make an appointment for about three months after I applied.
Barclays had told me that they wouldn't consider an account until six months after discharge, but they came up with an appointment a week after I had applied.
I was credit checked in the interview and they photocopied the discharge certificate but apart from that a week later I had my chequebook, debit card and on-line banking all working.
I don't know what to suggest if you are having problems except maybe try to make an appointment direct with the business manager at your branch and see what happens
Good luck
Incidentally I wrote to Vince Cable about the difficulties of former bankrupts opening business accounts: basically his reply was it up to the Banks what they do! I can understand this if you were looking to get credit but it seems counter productive to put additional obstacles in the way of people trying to rebuild their lives and become productive members of society.0 -

That's great thanks. Can i ask if you had done the credit cleanup before you applied and if Barclays were a creditor of yours?0
