MSE News: This year's cheapest energy tariff launches - is it right for you?

My understanding is that the £30 per fuel ETC is charged if you leave Ovo within the fixed term-not if you switch to a different Ovo tariff.
I'm going to wait until my switch has actually gone through and then ask the question.
Well I obviously have a different opinion. I believe the early exit fee applies to those who exit the tariff early.
Perhaps I took a simplistic approach. You see there is always an option to move to another supplier (which would then incur you a £30 per fuel fee) and then move back ... and from a suppliers point of view such a customer may not return, so why not cut out all the messing about.
However, if we adopt your take, then you should definitely transfer, because as I say, Martins says never base your decision on the possibility of cashback, beacuse it's not guaranteed. Much better to take advantage of the guaranteed lower price tariff
According to the Ovo site, it implies you cannot usually transfer. One exception is if you are coming to an end of an existing fixed contract with them, and have already agreed another follow-on fixed contract following an invitation letter from them at the older, higher price. Then you can get the new tariff under their Price Promise ... as long as you contact them before the new contract starts/old one ends and make such a request.
I see no reason to delay in contacting the supplier to clarify your position with them and discuss any options.0 -
@macman, I got thru on the phone yesterday morning and the girl I spoke to, told me that it wasn't possible to transfer me to the "cheaper new offer" -I suspect that the first few people who phoned got switched then the "grown ups" panicked when they realised how many people could potentially gain,so put the block on tariff switches.:(
What I find fascinating, is that EDF are now aware of the switch on both utilities - but haven't bombarded me with messages trying to persuade me not to switch...thought I get phone calls, emails etc etc..........0 -

I only remember 1 post suggesting they had success, which as I say I took with a huge pinch of salt, especially as it was quickly followed by others saying it wasn't possible.0 -

Same here. Quite strange.
I got 2 letters from EDF before I applied to switch reminding me the deal was coming to an end, offering alternatives, etc.
But since applying, no 'sorry you are leaving', nothing. I'm now out of the cooling off period with both new suppliers and both suppliers have already given me a supply start date, , so too late for EDF to contact now.0 -
I live in Scotland and Ovo will not supply me.
I suppose this discrimination will apply to a lot more than gas and electricity when we become independent and finally get rid of the English government.
Note I said English government and not English people.0 -

I'm sure a lot of us would like to get rid of the current British government:). Although I very much doubt that ovo don't supply Scotland as some sort of discriminatory measure- it's in their interest to supply as many people as they can.0 -
it's in their interest to supply as many people as they can
So why don't they?
I tried an English postcode and even when I changed the drop down box to yearly they said my 19000 kW of gas and 4500 kWh of electricity was too much, then when I forced it to accept my figures I got a quote of
Your yearly cost will be £24793.
So I wouldn't use them anyway.0 -
I was in the process of switching from EDF to OVO.
Despite me entering accurate useage per year (Kwh), and being a couple of £100s in credit with my EDF dds, OVO in their wisdom 'calculated' my dds as being £30 more per month!
I cancelled during the cooling off period.0 -
Thus proving ... it's all too hard. And you never really know what you're doing, what you should do, what you should have done....0

Same with me, all I've had from EDF are the routine 'tariff ending' emails and letters. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
